Rita Rudner

So, rather than watch a movie last night, I tuned in to PBS (who'd a thunk Rita would be on PBS?) and caught about half of "Rita Rudner Live from Las Vegas". It's a very good show and I'm sorry I missed the first half... Here she is with one of my FAVE people on the planet, Steve Martin. Rita has long been one of my favorite comedians. She performs at Harrah's and she is currently living in Las Vegas with her hubby Martin and 5-year-old adopted daughter. This blows my mind, the woman is 56-years-old!!! But, as she says, she can be home all day with her daughter and when she goes to do her show, she just hires a Rita Rudner look-alike to look after the little girl. (No word on what Martin is doing during this time :-)

Famous Rita quote "My husband and I wanted to hear the pitter patter of little feet, so we didn't know if we should have a child or get a dog. With a dog, you get more feet." Rita's just funny!! I have always wanted to see Rita and maybe I will next time I'm in Vegas.

Today, I get to babysit granddotter S! In all her adorable-ness...she is such a Sweet Pea. We will have fun together.

The sky looks gloomy, don't know if it's warm or cool outside, don't really care, well I care but not so much.

Bomber Report - our defence are a Powerhouse, football fans!! They're doing great things...now if they could just get the offence motivated. I think Mike Kelly should try the below with our offence:

That should get their MOJO going!

Well, time to start my day and see what kind of work I can avoid until it's time to go cuddle with S!

Toodles and have a great day, all.

Redneck Football

Good evening! I am learning how to upload pics from the Web...soon I will actually find the USB cable for my camera so that I can upload pics of granddaughter and parentals' house we have worked so hard on, etc. etc. Baby Steps...

But for now...I present to you...The Redneckerson's Easter, starring Little Red Redneckerson and her Redneck Easter Basket! Come ON, they can't be serious...unless this whole thing is a joke and then...uh...the joke's on me, huh? Well, it IS kind of hilarious...poor little Red has to go scrounging for Easter Eggies with her Bud Light holder...and what the hell is she IN, a backyard jail??? ...sad, in a way.

So, today I put some wood filler into holes in the deck, did a bunch of errands & such, partially cooked dinner while G helped M&S repair their shed, G finished cooking dinner while I took in some much needed Vitamin D, via my lawn chair & Mister Sun...and my trusty outdoor, portable speaker. Best 30 bucks I ever spent!!!

Then we ate dinner and well, here I am. Still doing chores, the hum of the 25+ year old dishwasher behind me...they just don't make 'em like they used to, football fans! I rue the day I have to part with that baby, but it is coming...sooner methinks rather than later.

Speaking of football...Bombers play Calgary again on Saturday...they beat 'em once, they can do it again. I'll even wear my Stegall jersey...not that it's even remotely about me, but the times I forget to wear the jersey, they lose...I'm just sayin'...

The next home game is Aug 15 against the Alouettes (goddamn, that's gonna be a good game, Calvillo is the bomb!) and we're having company that evening. I think we will have to bring the tv outside...unless of course it's raining, then no.

Then, the next home game after that is the Sep. 13 Banjo Bowl, which we will attend if we ever get off our duffs and get them thar tickets! Do that tomorrow, prolly. For those unfamiliar with the Banjo Bowl, it is a long-standing tradition whereby Saskatchewan hosts Winnipeg in beautiful Regina on Sunday of the September long, and Wpg in turn hosts the Roughriders the Sunday after that. Why is it called the Banjo Bowl, you ask? Cuz them thar Riders ain't nothin' but a bunch of backwoods, inbred banjo pickers!! And they have a GOPHER as their mascot...Come ON. We have Buzz and Boomer who are WAY COOLER than any old Gopher! Puh-lease...

Anyway, that's how the Banjo Bowl was born and aptly named. Amen. Saskatchewan, where you can watch your dog (wife) run away for at least five days! Sasktchewan...I can see your house from here! I can't remember any of my Riders jokes, but they're good, trust me ;-)

Tired now, must go plop & pop in a movie...going to watch "He's just not that into you" courtesy of dotter M. I'm sure I'll enjoy it if I can keep my eyes open...as long as I don't go vertical I'll be ok. I can't tell you how many ends of movies/shows I have missed simply becuz I made the mistake of lying down.

Toodles...

Terminator Salvation...It's Awesome!

Just saw Terminator Salvation with A...it was awesome! Remember that I am a Huge Terminator fan who can't get enough. It was entertaining, had a story line & all that...all good but close to the end I was just sittin' thinkin' that it wasn't the same without 'Arnold', when who should appear but a striking Arnold look-alike!! I was like 'What??!!?' it can't be Arnold...it sure looks like him, but when he was much younger. Arnold is the Governator of California and he can't be in the movie, it's not allowed! I thought maybe it was a cameo & he was computer-enhanced, maybe that was allowed. But anyways, A (who is big-time into bodybuilding) informed me it was none other than Roland Kickinger, an Austrian bodybuilder! Good thing, cuz I'da been kept wondering. Here he is, striking a pose...

How about that, football fans? Not tooooo shabby and not too hard to look at...ouch, did I just say that aloud?
Anywho, it was a good movie, for those that are into Terminator. If you're not, don't go, cuz you'll get kinda lost in the storyline. Methinks I'll have to purchase this one as I own the others. My fave is Terminator 2 Judgment Day...there were quite a few T2 nuances in this one. AND the best news...is...two more Terminator movies are in works...may be rumors but time will tell!
In other news, the day was cool & windy, rainy off & on...off & on...and off & on. Glad I was inside a theatre and hadn't seen a flick in a long time (well, in a theatre). Waiting to see The Ugly Truth with M, as soon as we can coordinate our schedules and she gets rid of her migraine, poor girl.
I hope the weather improves tomorrow, maybe get something done at the parentals', start staining the deck...who know, anything could happen :-)
This just in...hubby outside and just reported the geese (we have a lot of geese at our man made lake) are heading North, via the field where they stop to eat...this is not good! Come back geese, come back, it's a misunderstanding...the hot weather is still to come. In our dreams prolly; this may be the beginning of the end of summer, it hasn't been HOT since last Sunday, which was not even the end of July. Oh Man...will someone turn up the heat??
And that's all she wrote, so I bid you adieu until tomorrow...
Bye!

Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head...

Rain. Not a torrential downpour but enough to keep us from going to Gimli on the last day of the Islendigudugguren...it's no fun in the rain, and we can't cut the grass at the trailor. Oh well, there's always next year and Gimli is still a fave destination which we plan on doing within the week.

Luckily, G and A got our lawn done yesterday. M and I completed the staining at the parentals' and the results are verrrry niiiiiice, if we do say so ourselves!! It almost looks like a new house. It was a lovely day, everyone hung out outside for a lot of the afternoon, as granddotter/great granddotter S was there to delight and entertain us all; G put the light fixtures back on the house & played with S (as we all did); my brother T even came by briefly; son-in-law S came by after work & niece C arrived after work! After the rest left, I swept off the deck & removed superfluous old screws & nails from various boards, to begin prep for staining. I knew I should have done a wee bit of wood-filler yesterday, anticipating possible rain today, but I did not. So, tomorrow...or whenever. Once the deck is done, as M says, their house will be 'Pimpin!'...and it will!

Everyone was there except son A, I realized...sorry, A! We thot he'd be sleeping (Nocturnal, he) BUT, here he was at home mowing the back yard (unbeknownst to us). That was a nice surprise...Good Son, didn't even have to be cajoled or threatened!! You need to know our backyard is Huge (for the city) as we're on a pie-shaped lot. For shits & giggles, we once measured its widest point **width** at 100 feet...that's alot of yard, football fans. (And for this, we get to pay the highest taxes on the block, but we don't complain much anymore) We were able to accommodate 60 bodies for the wedding shower held in '05 for M and S; both sides of our family for many Father's Day bbq's over the years, and have had many impromptu soccer games & football tosses break out in the backyard when A's buddies were over - even now I can sometimes lure A outside to toss the pigskin around...but I digress. And I still think it screams out for a pool ;+)

Anyway, it was a great afternoon yesterday!!!

Today, I guess we'll do those chores that need doing when you're forced to be inside on account of rain. Or not :-( ...grrrrrrrr

The forecast for Friday is sunny, so let's hope that continues for Aerosmith/ZZTop (outdoor stadium concert) ...pray for us!

Must also get to a Folklorama pavillion, need to scan the paper and see which one this year.

This is/was a big year for me...I turned 50 in June, G and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in July, and August marks 30 years at my place of employment. 30 years! I was 20 and now I'm 50 - I don't feel that much different (except for the weight gain, creaks and the aches & pains - see weight gain, earlier). My newest boss, who's been in place for only 1 week (last week), and I managed a few chats last week, and she mentioned this upcoming 'milestone' (she's good!). I told her I didn't really want anything... We have a large number of long-term peeps and in the past have had 'come & go's' and 'cake parties', (during work time, bonus!) and while I agree it is a big milestone, I asked her to keep it 'low-key'. So, we'll see. I don't need cake...I do need cash...send cards & money, please :o) Kidding...

Off to do the laundry...oh what a life I lead, ladies & germans! If the rain holds off, we could even go exchange 2 of the 5 fascia boards we picked up for my Pop the other week...2 of 'em are different from the other 3 and nobody noticed til yesterday. Also pick up some plywood so M & S can repair their shed...mebbe we can babysit S while they do that...you see, I'm always thinking :-)

Happy August long weekend to y'all!! have fun...

Love & Peace,
CFM

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

It's Sunday, football fans, and Ize going to stain the rest of the parentals' homestead. And I hope to spend some time today with (granddaughter) S...need cuddles :-)) Today, I've added some links to this blog, I still need to upload some pics so I can add them, reformat & such, but these things take time, I'm still learnin' myself what I can do with this-here Blog.

Hope to get to Gimli tomorrow to: a) cut the grass at the trailor we don't have time to spend time at and 2) take in the last day of the Islendiggeduggeran (sp?) - the Icelandic Festival. Back in the day (80's) M and I would spend the whole 1st week of August at a rented cabin in Wpg beach and hang out there and in Gimli...ride bikes, do the beach (the 80's were stiflingly hot) play the games at Playland. Even tho M is not a beach gal per se, we spent many, many fun weeks there over the years and have lots of good memories. I hope to get S there this summer, and get an ice-cream from the Dairy Bee...it's still there after all these years! Some things never change, which is a wonderful thing :-)

I best go & start my day, so much to do, so much Time To Do It In now that Ize on vaycayshuns...

Bombers Win!!!

Incredibly, the Bombers held onto their very slim lead (13-12) in the last quarter for the win...by a c-hair, football fans. It was an ugly win, but a win nonetheless. Good work, Michael Bishop!!! And we had great defence again...7 turnovers!! Awesome. Offence still needs lots of work, but...we won!! (did I mention?)

It's only 3 p.m. on Day One of Vaycayshunz...what to do now? Whatever I wantz, that's what.

Don't you hate when you wake up with a headache? At least if I had earned it...it must be PWS (post-work-stress)...yes, that's it. And this too shall pass...by tomorrow I'm thinkin'. I hope the farmers of Western Canada appreciate all the work I just did for them these past 2 weeks, gettin' ready for the new crop year, which begins today...August 1. Where is the year going? It was June 1 and we were having dinner with B & V from Kelowna and Victoria (respectively) and now it's August 1.

Mus' get over to the parentals' tomorrow with M and finish staining the house. It'll go fast and then we can start re-staining the deck ...and then...and then...no and then!! (name that movie)...we be done!! These things take time...

Well, must forage for nourishment, have to keep my strength up til dinner. The stupid cat (eldest) S, wants to go outside. She's only allowed out under supervision, with strict orders to not go after any birds or bunnies in the yard, both of which we have an abundance of...gotta be real carefull with S, she runs fast for an old cat (she be 11). My Kitty turns 6 this month...happy birthday, Kitty!! Seems like only yesterday you came to live with us.

Ok, enuf. Congratulations Bombers for a hard-fought win!!! Keep up the good workz!!

Love & Peace

Day One of Vaycayshun

Well, football fans, it's 'Caturday' morning... hubby and I are relapsing with coffee & the newspaper. It's sunny & cool outside, which is way better than the rain we've had All Week. The really big Game is on at noon, so I presume I will watch unless I can absolutely find something better to do.

Curious to see how our new starting quarterback Michael Bishop and the rest of the offence perform today. I don't have high hopes...we can't, I have realized, b/c you can't butcher a team, bring in all these new guys and expect great things. I suspect the win over Calgary on July 10th was a fluke; it was a great game and I had the pleasure of attending, but...ahhh, we'll see. Methinks we all just have to be patient and see how this all shakes out.

I'd rather be at the lake, but I'll get there at some point.

I must find a vehicle to purchase but again, I hate the whole process of test-driving, wheeling & dealing, financing, blah, blah, blah, ad nauseum. The Royal Bank branch I have dealt with for 30 years refuses to increase my line of credit limit so I can buy said vehicle. What? In a way, I can't blame them b/c on paper I do have a high debt-ratio...only because they add into the equation the limit(s) of every stinkin' credit card you own, or line of credit you have, whether you use it or not, whether you have a balance owing or not. It's redonkulous!!! Hell, in that case, I wouldn't give me a penny! I'm pretty sure they didn't used to do that when doing all of their Gazintas, it may be a fairly new phenomena. It's crazy how the Royal Bank have only ever 'helped me out' once financially, when I bot the Honda, and that financing was arranged by Birchwood, not by me. I should really take them off my Christmas card list...

Anywho, think I'll go see "John" (a name given to me by a satisfied customer) at Focus Hyundai, and get a Tucson...or maybe get Kia SUV, cuz they give out 10-year warranties, football fans!!! That's what I'm talkin' bout...

I should go clean my house...or not...I'm sure I can find something to occupy my time til the game.

Go Bombers!!! You can do it Blue! Good Luck!!

Love & Peace,
CFM
