Sunday Evening (means work tomorrow :-(

Good evening, football fans. Well, we had a full day...got our chores done by noon and Baby S came over at 1 this afternoon. We played outside and inside, and she sure did enjoy her new chalkboard easel (when she's older, we can put up paper and buy her crayons). She has a 'Magnadoodle' at home and just loves it. Anyway, she even knew how to use the brush...Smart Girl! Here are some of her "sketchings":

She picked quite a few flowers for Granny and Grandpa...I don't mind b/c they're annuals and the flowers will come back. There's plenty to go around:

She had a great, long nap (long for her) for 1.5 hrs. which gave me time to weed and water all the flowers.

Frolicking with Sheila:

I don't know what happened w/this pic, just go with it

Climbing Granny's lawn chair:

I just luv this pic of her

Anyway, this year's deck theme is 'Flamingos and Palm Trees'. Why? Because I love Flamingos and Palm Trees!!! I even bought a blow-up Palm Tree drink cooler (like a kid's pool) but haven't used it yet, due to the 'rainy season' that seems to have passed (now, at the end of summer). Mebbe next wknd...oh, there's a warning on the box "will not float when filled with drinks" or words to that effect. Thanks for that.

Anywho, it all started with this windchime two years ago, from the Bargain Shop for about 8 bucks:

Then I got this sign from the Gimli Dollar Store:

Oh, and here's my beautiful flower basket:

I got this crazy, bamboo-skirted Flamingo at Gordman's in Grand Forks (she even has boobies):

This Tiki Hut windchime I bought as one of my birthday gifts (from a gift card) from my girl & her hubby:

I love my deck this year...and my flowers all did great. I love the color scheme & think I'll go with it again next year. Yes, I am tooting my own horn dammit, cuz no one else will!

These are the lovely mini-roses from hubby this Mother's Day:

Here's a Welcome planter my girl & her hubby gave me for Mother's Day...it's bilingual and so when the French couple were over 2 wks ago, of course I turned it over to say Bienvenue...

These flowers and things I started in June & were quite small...it took them a long time but they finally look 'mature':

And there you have it...today was a Grand Day. Granddaughter, Grand flowers (yes, I do say so myself) and Grand palm trees & flamingos.

It may be time to go have a beer and ponder the hell that will be awaiting me at work tomorrow. Oh and not to mention wheeling & dealing with Bob & Doug...no, Bob and David. Cars...a necessary evil. Pray for me!

Cars and Football

That's what life is all about! Augh, my Chargers just got beat by the Falcons with 20 seconds left in the game. They were up 4...24-20 and then...Kapow! Falconz gotz a goal...sigh. Only exhibition game, so no worries.

I made some new friends today...their names are Bob, Ed and David. Pretty ordinary names, wouldn't you say? In reality, these guys are Car Salesmen!!! Yep. And the only slimy one per se, was Ed...a tad slimy. Dave and Bob were nice, regular guys...oh yah, and Brad, who introduced me to and left me in Bob's capable hands, he was a pretty cool guy. As far as car salesmen go, you understand. So, I'll be calling prolly 2 of 'em on Monday and try & do a deal on Tuesday. However, on Tuesday, some "incentives" may end, being month-end and end of quarter. And that, football fans, is just my luck...I'm always a day late and a dollar short. I will miss out on a gas card (Nissan) for 20 cents off a litre of gas for a whole year, as it ends Aug. 31. But, they have 0 per cent financing, which works for me! If it's still 0 per cent on Tuesday...they all say they don't know what's coming down the pike for next week...next month...not sure I believe 'em. They are car salesmen, after all...

Here are my choices.

Choice 1 - Toyota Corolla S (with moon roof :-)

But picture it in Barcelona Red! (When I got to the color-changing page, it changed the model to not a Corolla S (no spoiler) so that was no good.) Anyway, she's a Beauty!!!

Choice 2 - Honda Civic:

Yawn. Hubby's trying to lean me towards the Civic but I'm kinda done with Honda & would like something different.

Choice 3 - Nissan Sentra 2.0 SL (not exactly as illustrated):

Ok, it looks way better than this, but I couldn't get an image from the Dealership page. Huh! This is prolly not even the right model. Suffice to say, the price quoted me on this car, with moon roof, is $1,000 less than the price when you add the moon roof option on the 'build your model' page...and you hafta add freight and PDE on top of that. I am assuming (and I hate to assume, it makes an ass out of u and me) that Bob included freight and PDE (I forgot to ask, silly me :) He says they have two left, one in the charcoal grey, which is the beauty one I sat my ass in. He says they're 'motivated' as these are '09's that are "just lying around". Well, Bob, I'll take it off your hands IF the price includes freight and PDE. Understand. Comprenday?

Decisions. I hate car shopping, did I say that once or twice?

Time for bed...tomorrow's another day...I have done my gazintas (2 gazinta 4, 4 gazinta 8) and while I hate the idea of car payments, it's gotta be done ladies & germans.

Sweet dreams....zzzzzzzzzzz car! zzzzzzzzzz car! zzzzzzzzzzzzz car!

Mornings...Almost as Bad as Mondays...

Help stamp out mornings! Don't you hate when you wake up with a headache? Moi aussi (me too)...I think it should at least be earned. I guess I earned it all this Hell Week at work. Oh well, this too shall pass...

Here's me in the morning:

Denial isn't just a big river in Egypt.

Today is no exception. But, I go to make coffee and this is what I find:

I don't know how many times I've asked the next-door naybor to keep their dog at home! I mean he's cute and all but still...I needz my javaz!!! And I needz it now!

I pity the poor car salesman who gets moi as a customer today...I just hate car salesmen in general (they're slimy n'est ce pas?) and the whole process of looking for/buying a vehicle. Goin' to Toyota ladies & germs, and possibly Hyundai. I just cannot buy a Ford Escape when they're still using 15-year-old technology (according to hubby) and anyway, not so sure I wantz an SUV anymore, going to try a Matrix...it's a hatchback! I miss my old hatchbacks...had an Acadian Woody and a Chevette back in the 80's. They were great cars!! The Chevette motor was legendary...alas, they both left me after being written off in minor fender benders. Then I had my 'dream car', a Firebird. I loved it...it was a terribuls winter car but what the hey? I had to have it. After one winter, the Ming job had worn off and rust spots were everywhere, co-mingling with the lovely taupe color. Actually, it was a nice contrast. And the air condish stopped working, or maybe it never did, can't remember. I finally got rid of it for 2 reasons. 1) It needed a new head gasket (whatever that is :-) and it was going to be costly and 2) I had a baby to cart around and a Firebird is just not the best vehicle for that! Trust me and make a mental note all you Moms2B out there! I could go on & on about the Chevy Corsica I bought after that, but in short, it was the biggest piece of crap/money pit I ever owned. I even wrote the President of GM about all the repairs on and off warranty, and she wrote me back a lovely Dear Jane letter, saying basically too bad, so sad. Well guess what, football fans? I will never buy a GM vehicle again. Oh, and I took them off my Christmas card list.

S will not be coming over today due to a miscommunication but she will be coming over tomorrow! Happy Day!!

Bought the young son a chair yesterday, leather, hi-back, a beauty all for $99.99 on sale! Chair down, desk (have one on back order) and bed to go.

Well, must go do stuff...updates later in the day...have a good one all.

Just A Blog Before I Go...

Shopping that is! Ahhh, yes, shopping I have missed you! I haven't shopped in a while...I do not consider picking up milk and romaine shopping :-) Anyway, going looking for desk, chair and bed for son A's new room (which is far from ready) in basement. Then he'll be "Basement Kid" just like "Basement Cat" on Cheezburger.

Speaking of Cheezeburger AND my fave expression in the same breath (that being, "Bite Me!"), I just found this tres appropos (you bet I'm bilingual) pic on Lolcats and I must share it with y'all.

And yah...gotta go now. Tomorrow, two things will happen. I will drag hubby out to test drive vehicles that I so love to do :-( Little S will come over for the evening, yay! Cannot wait.

So...Bite Me!

Some Guys Have All The Luck...

Some guys have all the pain...some guys get all the breaks...some guys do nothing but complain. Oh hello, football fans, a little Rod Stewart this morning? I rec'd some pictures from the Aug 17th ROD concert. He looked so cute in his baby blue blazer...and all his other clothes (he changed 3 times...said he was "sweating like a pig up here"! Did I mention I love Rod?)

Edit Aug 28 - here are my Rod pics!

He opened with 'It's a Heartache', if memory serves, or maybe 'The first cut is the Deepest'. He flubbed some of the words at one point, looked at his 3 doll-like back-up singers and mouthed "I f*cked up!" It was terribly cute, don't know how many in the crowd caught it, but I did.

He sang many of his hits, and when he sang 'Love Train' (ok, not his hit) a bunch of peeps on the floor formed, well, a love train. The Jumbotron showed them trainin' around the floor and Rod commented on it. It was kinda neat.

Rod did not sing 'The Killing of Georgie' which is one of my fave songs of his. It's a good thing though b/c it always makes me & my girl cry...a sad song but it tells a story. That's Rod...a great Storyteller.

Hmmm, I seem to have not detached the pictures and can't access them on my e-mail because Windows Live will currently not let me login...piece of sh*t, I don't know why this keeps happening.

Oh well, I gotta get ready for hell, I mean work anyway, so pray for me and I'll be back to upload them pikshurs, fer sure.

See you in the funny papers!

I Can't Relax Cuz I Haven't Done A Thing and I Can't Do A Thing Cuz I Can't Relax

Welcome to The Last Resort! Well...I'm living a nightmare at work that just won't go away. Due to Ottawa (AAFC to be verrrrry specific) we have to undo, redo, and redo, redo, redo everything we had poised to put in place for the start of a program next Tuesday, Sep. 1. Not too much pressure! Every year it's something and this year is no exception it seems...but this time, they've gone too far!! We are going to take them off our Christmas Card list. There. That'll learn them.

I went outside to soak up some much-needed and much-missed sunshine, but like today's title, I can't relax cuz I haven't done a thing and I can't do a thing cuz I can't relax. When you're home, you worry about stuff at work and when you're at work, you worry about stuff at home - you are Rent.

In other news, I took granddotter S for a walk yesterday around her neighborhood. She is a very good hand holder...and if she starts doin' that wigglin' my hand out of Granny's thing, I just give her the look...and I say "Nuh, uh, uh!" and then she stops. But I digress. This couple were walking by and as they approached they both remarked how incredible cute she is and the lady said she looked like a real, live doll. Well!!! ...being a biased Granny and all, that just made my day! It's true - I do have the cutest grandbaby in the whole entire world!! Nobody can say differently and make it stick. (this just came to me, it's an old jingle from a commercial that I cannot remember). Digressing again...! S was unimpressed by all the attention. She did pick up 2 sticks, 1 large blade of quack grass and 1 dandelion (that had already gone to seed, hence all the fuzzies blew off before we reached home) as 'gifts' for her darlin' Mother. That kid...sucking up already! Way to go S, just like Granny taught you! Next up...shopping!!! Must...learn...her...how...to...shop! She did have a grand time in Tergesen's (Gimli) pointing & babbling at all the stuffed aminals and grabbing for books. She's also the smartest grandbaby in the world, did I mention?

S
o, me must go now & do the supper thing and the getting my costume ready for tomorrow's masquerade thing...this was just a time-filler (time-killer).

I bid you all adieu until the next time I have something to say...

Love & Peace

Life's a Beach

Aah, the two most beautiful words in the English language...Summer Afternoon...well, to me, anyway. Yesterday, ran away to the Beach with M and S (granddotter) and we had a Great day!! Baby's first time at the lake. Poked around Gimli, ate lunch, did some shopping & took pictures. Then, off to Wpg Beach to play in the sand with sand toys. S liked that a lot!! When I walked her to the water's edge, though, she remembered that she does not like water! Not one bit...we were right there, with the gentle lapping of the water on the sand (not a strong wind, by any means) and I thought cool, she's ok with this. Not!! Started crying (her, not me) and, being a nice Granny (as opposed to a mean Granny), I brot her back to our spot on the sand. We bypassed the park on the way back, as the hour was getting late (you've seen one swing, you've pretty much seen 'em all) but we did go for ice cream!!

After all these years, the Dairy Bee is still buzzing (pun intended). But I gotta tell ya, it is not air-conditioned. It was disgusting, stifling and we almost melted waiting in line. You couldn't pay me to work there...well, maybe if you paid me in ice cream :-) Outside once again, we sat in the resin chairs cleverly lined up against the wall (in the shade I might add) while we and S ate our ice cream cones. She loved it! Close to the end, she grabbed the cone and, if we could actually understand her babbles, proclaimed "I can hold it myself!" and proceeded to finish it! We had taken many pictures all day, but just as she held the cone herself & M was about to take the picture, she said "damn! camera card full!" Damn!!! What kind of Granny doesn't know her camera card is close to being full??! On the upside, a darn fine excuse to go right back and do it again...soon...before summer goes away.

The weather was fabulous all wknd and then today...back to rain. This, football fans, is the Summer of our Discontent. A tremendous rip-off...disheartening...disillusioning...and other words that mean terribuls.

So anyway, here's the little darlin :

Whoops! How'd that chocolate ice cream get there??? Bad Granny!

Posin' with the Gimli Credit Union Bear, formerly of Broadway Ave. in Wpg (the Broadway Bears, many summers ago, I think for the Pan Am games, then they were redistributed.)

Hard at work, I mean play, in the sand.

And there you have it football fans. I can't wait til she's older (although I love her cute age right now) so we can do more stuf!

Nighty night, time for Bed...

Love & Peace,

It will be a full day.

Further updates as warranted...have a good day, all!

The Eagles concert March 13/09

Here are some pics I took at the Eagles concert. Ok, they're not the best pics but they're not that bad...cut me some slack, I've had no formal training ;o))

They played Hotel California about 5 songs in, I thought they would have left it for the encore:

And my fave Eagle, Joe I-was-drunk-for-10-years Walsh:

Don't know what it is about this guy, maybe I just have a soft spot for the underdog, which is what I consider him (and not in a bad way).

And my other favorite Eagle, Don Henley:

Timothy B Shmit:

...not a fave by a long shot...sings like a girl. Timothy, meet Stefan LeFors, he throws like a girl.

I do have a pic of Don Henley and Glen Freye together singin' their little hearts out, but I seem to have not downloaded it from my camera, ergo not available for this blog. Which tells you what I think of Glen Freye. Not so much. I heard later that during intermission, security had to keep him and Don separated to prevent them from ripping each others' throats out...still fighting after all these years...

And here's all the guys together, left to right, Timothy, Don, Glen and Joe. I honestly don't know who the other guy on guitar is (far right), they introduced him, but it beats me. What I do know is that it was hot as Hell in the arena, and we found out later that the Eagles, bless their hearts, wanted cold, frigid Winnipeg to feel like California so they had the staff jack the heat to 23 degrees. 23 degrees ladies & germans, and there we all were, dressed for winter. It was not pleasant...but we hardly noticed ;-)

Exactly 3 months earlier, I stood outside Ticketmaster at 7 ayem for 2 hours, in -31 degrees with a windchill of way colder to get the tickets. Hubby was at home on the Interwebs and, as I got to the front of the line, he got signed in. Long story short, my tix were better so he let his go. They sold out in 16 minutes and dammit, I was going!!! And the rest is history.

And now, I can die happy...Eagles, you guys rock!

Bathroom Cat & other Weird Stuff

After 4 days back at work, I could use more vaycayshuns. Seriously, I work like a dog and it never ends! Then I get asked (politely requested) yesterday to do yet more work, take on another project. And since it was a question and not an order, I thought about it overnight and politely declined! It was all so polite...I hope there's no repercussions. What are they going to do, give me more work? Hah! There's only one of me, people!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm dancing as fast as I can.

So I walk into the washroom this afternoon and here's what I see:
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for kittehs in the workplace bathroom, but that place is getting seriously nuts. I guess cutbacks are affecting everyone's bottom line...

And, speaking of the weather here in the 'Peg, I heard a good joke, the gist of which was all these people were waiting at the Gates to get into either Heaven or Hell. Some got into Heaven, some into Hell, but Satan threw the odd person aside. This kept happening and finally someone spoke up and asked what the Hell (ha ha) was going on. Satan replied that those were Manitobans, and while they were going to Hell, they were still too cold and wet to burn. This is how bad it is, football fans.

Speaking of football, the Vegas line for tonite's game...Lions by 7.5 points. Crazy Football Mom line...if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. Methinks it will be somewhat like the blind leading the blind. Friday night football with the CNIB (ouch!) But still...Go Bomers! You can do it Blue! They have to win...seriously...

And now for something completely different, I think I'll have me a beer or 3...as soon as I drive my son & nephew to the show. Here kid, here's 20 bucks, get lost! Ahhhh, peace & quiet and MGDs...it don't get much better than that.

Love & Peace,
CFM

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Sigh! Raining again...surprise! It started out foggy, tres foggy and then little droplets on the windshield. Get to work and I forgot the umbrella. Amazingly, while we were all tucked away in the office, the sun was shining (off & on, of course :-) Then, minutes after I arrived home...it finally rained. It poured...buckets...raining cats & dogs. I don't know why it can't ever rain lottery tickets or cash or something useful.

Rain...highly overrated...enuf already! I guess it's better than the tornado watch yesterday (not warning, just watch...hey watch! there might be a tornado! or there might not)...anyway, better but not by much. This is tres sickening already. And that's my weather rant.

If it don't rain (!) I'm running away to the beach with M & S on Sunday. On Saturday, after I babysit the little banana (again! yes!), we are going to hubby's work BBQ at the home of his boss. It will be nice to relax (for a friggin' change) and hang out...oh and eat & drink.

I think that's it...yawn. shnore...gonna go regroup (translation, sit nay lie on the couch and eat bonbons).

Ciao

Oy Vey

What a day! Woke up tired & grumpy...not the best way to start the day...and I even slept thru the night for a friggin' change (see 'pre-menopause' : hot flashes). Work was hard...I was at it until 1:30, took a short break & was back at my pc when the fire alarm went off. 8 floors of peeps trudging downstairs and outside into the temporary sun and humidity (rained off & on all day...surprise!) We couldn't go back in for 1/2 an hour even tho it was a 'false alarm', i.e. not scheduled, unplanned and other words that mean we didn't see it coming. The firemen arrived and everything...they just stood around looking goooood :-)

We all went back in the building and then it was time for my 30th-anniversary-at-work cake party...actually it was past the time, being 2:30 and the party scheduled for 2. There were 2 kinds of cake, I got a "wristonniere" which is a wrist corsage AND there were 2 dozen roses. And 2 cards! I expected a cake party, not the Academy Awards - it was extremely thoughtful and appreciated. Kind words were spoken about moi by my former Manager (ok, I've had 5 in the last 5 years, but this guy knows me) and I orated a short, carefully prepared speech, put together in exactly 7 minutes last night and had only time to glance at while in the hot seat. Oh yah, and I was having a total hot flash...melting, sweating, hair flattening as I spoke...it was extremely attractive. So, I apologized for setting off the fire alarm, which seemed to break the ice quite nicely.

Once the throngs had left, I sat around for an additional 1/2 hour with a few peeps shooting the breeze. The room cooled down to the point I didn't ever want to leave (see hot flash, above). Seriously, football fans, it's like you're an oven, melting from the inside out and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. It's all the fun you can have with your shoes on ;+) Mother never told me there'd be days like this...

Get this...Brett Favre has signed on with the Vikings!!! Unbelievable! Just a few weeks ago, I wished him a happy retirement and now this. Who can keep up with this guy? Well better they signed Brett than that Dog Killer, whom the Eagles signed and shall remain unnamed (Michael Vick).

And I saw granddaughter S tonite...hung out with M and S for awhile, and S put on her show, totally wearing herself out by 8, just in time for bed. A good time was had by all.

Anywho...off to do something useful now...or not ;+>

Musings...

So, I did float into work today, or rather sailed in, with Rod Stewart songs floating in my head. But after putting in a long, hard day I gotta say...how many more years til retirement??? Oh yes, less than five now! My 30-year anniversary (at work) was Aug 13th, but I was safely away on holidays...not in the building... absent. I found out today that my Manager planned a 'cake & coffee' thing for the floor. Yeesh. I didn't really want that, but who am I to ask her to change it...and besides, it's tomorrow! I do like cake, so...what the hell. Must prepare speech...

And I received an anniversary card & bottle of wine from a work chum :-) This turning 50 stuff, working 30 years at the same place & staying married to one guy for 20 years has been quite lucrative, netting me tonnes of wine, gifts, cash, etc. And did I mention I got to see Rod? ;+) It's been quite a year.

Only 4 months and a little bit til Christmas, football fans! Have you started your shopping???

Still looking for those cocaine-laced 10 dollar bills...then I can sing ala Rod, "I am sailing...I am sailing...far away...cross the sea." Take a trip and never leave the farm.

Ok, I should go & enjoy some weather...haven't had any lately and it was cold this morning, really cold. Lawn chair, here I come!

Love & Peace,
CFM

In Rod We Trust

Rod Stewart

It was great! It was more than great, it was Awesome!! I had forgotten what a showman Rod is. And the band...they are fantastic! He let each one of them shine, with drum solos, guitar solos, keyboard solos, violin and sax solos, and those beautiful, doll-like back-up singers in their blue dresses. But the man can still sing, football fans. It was a Great concert!!!

The starting band, a group called The Kin, were very good. Two brothers (plus drummer and bass player) from Austrailia who harmonize quite well, and their songs were extremely well put together. They put on a good show.

Back to Rod, for a 64-year-old, he can still shake his cute little tush!! He could have sang more of his hits (rather than others') but he's still got it! The grande finale and best part of the concert was "Maggie May", his 1971 hit that made him famous. This guy's been performing for 40 years, ladies and germs. And he looks a helluva lot better than Mick Jagger...'nuf said.

In other news - I just read that 8 out of 9 ten-dollar bills have traces of cocaine on them...hey, buddy, got two 10's for a twenty? I wanna get high!

So, back to work, I think I'll float in today, with memories of "the rhythm of my heart, is beating like a drum...the words I love you rolling off my tongue. never will I roam, for I know my place is home - where the ocean meets the sky, I'll be sailing!"

Ciao!

About Rod Stewart

Well, football fans, it's true...I'm going to see Rod Stewart tonight! Yes!!! I only found out yesterday, my darling dotter & son-in-law and granddaughter of course, surprised me with a ticket. My girl's going with me, bless her heart. She said "well, I know all the songs anyway..." Of course she does, cuz she was forced to listen to them growing up. I chased Rod for most of the 80's, seeing him twice. So, it's been 20-something years, and I cannot wait! And he's going to sing all his old classics...it is going to be great :-)))

I have loved Rod since the 70's (no, I'm not ashamed). Above is Rod in 1976, the year my girl was born.

And, here he is now

And, He still looks damn good!

Anywho, I must go now and get ready for...Rod! Will report back tomorrow, unless he's asked me to run away with him!

This Says It All...

And Margaritaville is where I'd like to be plz!

Random Updates

We had a lovely day with our company (friends from Ottawa, she being from the 'Peg) as we don't see them very often. M, S and S were here too and we had a nice dinner and a good time!

Now, to the updates...

Update numero uno
Michael Bishop and Anthony Calvillo

It appears all is lost in Bomberville. I'm glad we weren't there, not only for the pissing rain all day...the rain did stop in the evening. And I must admit I didn't watch it on the tube as I was outside visitin' with my friend as the rain had stopped. However, hubby & my friend's hubby did watch, he being French and a huge Al's fan and all... So, having read about the disappointing 39-12 loss in the paper, here is Crazy Football Mom's analysis. The Alouettes dominated...no surprise there. Our offence sucked...no surprise there. Our defence were not up to their usual standard...surprise! Michael Bishop's 4th game as a Blue Bomber and he's 13 of 35...he is our Savior? Thank you Serna, for the 4 Field Goals...way to go!!! So, we are now 2-5 (which may be the worst in the league, I didn't bother checking). Apparently, Mike Kelly's offensive plan is either too simple or too complicated for our guys to get...but does he change it up? No. Is anything working? No. He keeps talking the talk. Here's an idea...perhaps he needs to remove himself as offensive coordinator right now before we get even deeper into the ditch. It's like deja vu, a repeat of last year, watching a train wreck - pick your analogy, it's THAT BAD. Sigh. Still, I look forward to the next (and last) home game we will be attending, the Banjo Bowl in September. Win or lose, it's a good time...if sitting in a Stadium with 25,000 fans, beer in one hand, smokie in the other (and peanuts in yer purse) is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Update numero dos
Happy 50th Birthday, Polo Park, on August 20, 2009! I inadvertently omitted this important event from 50 years ago (1959, the year of my birth, for those too lazy to do the math) in a previous blog. Although I don't go there that often, Polo Park remains a great shopping mall as far as malls go. I don't shop that much :-) And if you buy that, I have a bridge I could sell ya...

Update numero tres
Ticketmaster (TM) - yesterday, I wrote about Friday's attempt to get a refund on our Aerosmith / ZZ Top tickets, where the girley told me she didn't have enough cash in her til, the policy was cash refund, never mind that the tix are on the MasterCard, yada yada. On the radio (and in the voicemail I received later) they said tix purchased online would be refunded to the credit card, no further action required; otherwise, refunds could be had at point-of-sale or MTS Centre box office, where I was prepared to go next Tuesday. I don't have to! I had a complete brain fart, thinking I had gone to buy them in person, as I usually do. In reality, I just went to TM to pick them up, having purchased them online. And I forgot this. So yah...I'm an idiot and have trouble sometimes remembering things. It's this pre-menopause, I swear. Footnote - wouldn't it have been a hoot if I had been successful in getting cash out of this TM gal on Friday AND getting a refund on my MasterCard?!?! I would have SO ripped off Ticketmaster, instead of the other way around (TM being the crooks in this scenario, follow me here, with their convenience charges, miscellaneous taxes, etc.). Man, that would have been Sweet!! Oh well, this too shall pass. Hope I get my refund.

F'ing rain...well, it's cloudy, threatening to rain. I have one more day of vaycayshunz Monday (and surprise, it's s'posed to rain) and hubby goes back Monday. We did a lot and accomplished a lot, but there's always those 10 or so things on your list that you didn't get done. They will get done eventually, but...

Summer's too short and we're still waiting actually for it to arrive. One sunny & hot day here & there does not a summer make. This is not good for the crops, that's for sure. They're talking about a 'cold front' moving into the Prairies this coming week - and this would be different how??? And perhaps a frost at the end of August - egads, that would be turribulz!

And so I go start my day...today's random errands and sorting thru piles of stuff to keep, give away or trash...that's always a fun time.

Adieu til tomorrow (or later, who knows?)

Caturday mewsings

Well, football fans, it's Caturday!

And I am babysitting S, the cutest granddaughter in the world!

And today's the big game (Bombers vs Alouettes) good luck Bombers, you can do it Blue!!

And today, we're having company...and we got the house clean, halleluiah!! (sp?) Shame about the STINKING RAIN that will be all day, but whatever...for this reason, I cleaned the entire front room, so we can comfortably hang out in there (although, I'd much rather be outside :(

And the rest of the Aerosmith / ZZ Top tour is officially cancelled (sob). So, I went to get my tickets refunded at point of purchase, which was Ticketmaster in the Main Street IGA. The little girley (that's as kind as I can be) looks at my 3 tickets, which total $323.25 (approximately :-) and says that she can't refund them as she hasn't enuf cash in her til. What??? I said no, I paid with MasterCard, so just credit my MasterCard. Nope! She said Ticketmaster policy was to refund in cash...fine, then give me cash! No, said she, I haven't enuf cash in my til. Well, I said, that's retarded! What pray tell am I supposed to do? Well, says she, you have to go to the MTS Centre. This is 3:30 on Friday afternoon, ladies & germs, and I am NOT going downtown if I don't have to. So I said this makes no sense, and why do you not have enuf cash in your til when you know peeps will be coming for ticket refunds??? To which she had no reply and I was quite ticked at this point, because it had been a really stupid day and this was the last straw. I sed seriously, does the Brinks' truck come & bring you guys more cash or what's the deal? She gave me blank look & sed, no I have to wait for people to buy tickets & pay cash for them. So I put the tickets back in my wallet and said "this is such bullshit" to which she replied "have a nice day". To which I seriously wanted to reply "F*ck right Off" but I did not...I simply left. Redonkulous! I will go the the frikkin MTS Centre on my lunch on Tuesday when I'm back at work, and I will give them a piece of my mind. Yah right...like they'll care...but it'll make me feel better. And that's my TicketMaster rant.

Well, S is 10 minutes into her nap. We had tons of fun and she is a little monkey...and acrobatic. She likes to take her little plush chair, push it over and dive into it. And then we laugh. Oh, I love babies, especially grandbabies!

Poor Spencer-Dog is out of sorts; he sits & shakes when the thunder comes. Luckily there hasn't been any thunder for about an hour. He keeps looking at me, but I don't know what he wants. To go outside, perhaps? But, it's raining cats & dogs! Ha, ha. I hope he doesn't pee on the floor again (he did that before I got here and his Dad gave him shit). So, I think we will cuddle now.

Again, go Bombers, you can do it if you really tryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Love & Peace,

Not So Deep Thoughts...

So...the Philadelphia Eagles have picked up Michael Vick. Apparently, people (particularly Eagles fans) are shocked! I don't know what to think...well, I know what I think of Vick. At least it's the Eagles and not the Packers, who had also been entertaining the idea of bringing him on board. I don't think that would have sat well with my hubby, a lifelong Packers fan.

Anyway, I know the NFL is full of scuzzy, questionable people, but Vick bankrolled a dogfighting ring AND he participated in killing dogs that "didn't do so well". He and his buddies would hang them, shock them with booster cables and drown them. Nice guy, hey? I don't have words to describe what a waste of skin this guy is...and I don't care if he "did his time" and "he's so sorry" for what he did, maybe someone should attach booster cables to his ahem, balls, and see how he likes it! Grrrrrrr!!!!! He should have been banned for life, in my humble opinion!

The Bombers are gettin' ready for Saturday's encounter with Calvillo and the rest of the Alouettes. I know the defence are ready...how about you, offence? At least we have Alexis Serna...and if that's the best I can do, we may be in trouble. Or, the Big Blue might surprise everyone. It's gonna be a good game...or not :-)

Ok, I really must go and get some stuffs done...hope everyone has a good day.

On House Cleaning...

I hate cleaning...I hate dusting, vacuuming, all of it..."tidying up" is way different from c-l-e-a-n-i-n-g. But clean I must today, and I found this extremely appropriate picture on cheezburger, which pretty much says it all. Anywho, we're having company for dinner on Saturday (out of town friends and M, S & S) and the maison will sparkle...if it kills me :-)

Bomber Report
The Vegas line for Saturday's game is Alouettes by 8 points. Crazy Football Mom cannot and will not dispute this, nor post her own personal prediction. The Bombers have become terribly UNpredictable, so we'll see how it goes. I don't fancy their chances, sad to say, but still, Go Bombers! You can do it Blue!

Other news
There is none...it's early, football fans. I be go and visit a good friend who turns 50 today! (alot of that going around :-) Then I go & visit another dear friend who is housebound with MS, doing very well on her own, and whom I haven't visited for a while, for which I feel bad. At some point, we must get S (granddotter) over to see her again, but today she'll have to settle for just moi.

Then of course, house cleaning. And...since it's raining there really isn't anything better to do.

TTFN and pray for me and my magic dusting wand!

Love & Peace,

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk

Edit - Aug 18/09 - Okay, so did the Interwebs Police delete my picture or what???

Greetings!!

To commemorate this special year, 50 years after I was born, I short-listed significant world events that happened in 1959. Here they are, in no particular order (kidding! in date order):

January 29 - Sleeping Beauty, Walt Disney's 16th animated film, is released.

February 3 - The day the music died. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper are killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa.

March 9 - Barbie is Born!

April 7 - The town of Jackpot, Nevada is founded near the border of Iowa (right after Iowa outlawed gambling).
May 11- The foreign ministers of Britain, France, the Soviet Union and the United States met in Geneva for a 17 day conference on the reunification of Germany, without coming to an agreement. Note: does this sound familiar? (as in they still can't agree on anything)

June 13 - I am born!

June 14 - As beachgoers in La Jolla, California watched, 33 year old Robert Pamperin is attacked and devoured by a 20 foot great white shark, while skindiving 50 yards from shore. No trace of Pamperin was found, and it was speculated that the shark had swallowed him whole. Note: I was in La Jolla in 2005...didn't see any trace of Robert Pamperin either.

June 21 -
Winnipeg, Manitoba, becomes the first city in North America to adopt the 999 number for emergency services. How cool is that?

(ok, June got 3 significant events, including the birth of me)

July 16 - Seconds after liftoff, a Juno II rocket, and the satellite it was carrying, were destroyed by ground control when the rocket veered off course toward central Florida. (this could have ended badly)

Aug 14 - Explorer 6 sends the first picture of Earth from space.

Sep 12 - Bonanza appeared for the first time on American television, premiering at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time on NBC.

Oct 2 - The Twilight Zone premieres on CBS.

Nov 22 - In Minneapolis, on the morning of the American Football League's first owners' meeting, the Minneapolis Star-Journal carried the headline "MINNESOTA TO GET NFL FRANCHISE". The owners of the AFL Minneapolis team denied the story, but soon were awarded the NFL's 14th team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Interestingly (and I did not know this), the Minneapolis AFL team was replaced by the Oakland Raiders. More interestingly, I was at the game (fans posing below) in San Diego on Oct 14/07 - Oakland Raiders vs San Diego Chargers!! Chargers won. Of course. Raiders fans are a little scary...

Dec 13 - Three years after its first telecast, MGM's The Wizard of Oz is shown on television for only the second time, but it gains an even larger viewing audience than its first television outing, spurring CBS to make it an annual tradition.

And there it is, in black & white (and blue, and red...)

Well, despite the time-stamp that will appear on this blog, (when I started this), the hour is late... I feel I've got to mooooove...into sleep mode.

G'nite football fans.
